Justin (Lou Taylor Pucci) is a teenager’s boy who has a verbal obsession with his thumb. His mother (Tilda Swinton) seems to be a normal Haushälterin, but she has her own obsessions also, how a pressure on a television star (Benjamin Bratt). The only person who is aware of the problem of Justin is his father (Vincent D’Onofrio), manager in a camp, but none of his advice seems to work for Justin. The child is obliged in a debate workshop by contract, but the thing does not go well because he has his opinion in a pretty class-mate and of course in his thumb, the whole rest of his classes concerning. So, Justin is a more lonesome child at school who prefers to shut in the bathroom and to suck his thumb. The dentist of Justin (Keanu stewards), a person of the mystic hippie, will to help to try to overcome his thumb problem by the hypnosis. But the psychologist of the school will diagnose Justin with the attention deficit mess, and will prescribe him some narcotics. Suddenly the problem of Justin with his thumb will disappear, a hyperactive genius growing, several debate quarrels and the admiration of his teacher (Vince Vaughn) winning. More serious problems will still come for Justin with his mother, his father and with a drug addiction.
Justin (Lou Taylor Pucci) ist ein Teenager-Junge, der eine mündliche Obsession mit seinem Daumen hat. Seine Mutter (Tilda Swinton) scheint eine normale Haushälterin zu sein, aber sie hat ihre eigenen Obsessionen ebenso, wie ein Druck auf einem Fernsehen-Stern (Benjamin Bratt). Die einzige Person, die des Problems von Justin bewusst ist, ist sein Vater (Vincent D’Onofrio), Betriebsleiter in einem Lager, aber keiner seiner Ratschläge scheint für Justin zu arbeiten. Das Kind wird in einer Debatte-Werkstatt vertraglich verpflichtet, aber das Ding geht nicht gut, weil er seine Meinung in einem hübschen Klassenkameraden und natürlich in seinem Daumen hat, den ganzen Rest seiner Klassen betreffend. Also, Justin ist ein einsameres Kind in der Schule, das es vorzieht, sich im Badezimmer zu schließen und seinen Daumen zu saugen. Der Zahnarzt von Justin (Keanu Vögte), eine Person des mystischen Hippies, wird versuchen zu helfen, sein Daumen-Problem durch die Hypnose zu überwinden. Aber der Psychologe der Schule wird Justin mit der Aufmerksamkeitsdefizit-Unordnung diagnostizieren, und wird ihn einige Rauschgifte vorschreiben. Plötzlich wird das Problem von Justin mit seinem Daumen verschwinden, ein überaktives Genie werdend, mehrere Debatte-Streite und die Bewunderung von seinem Lehrer (Vince Vaughn) gewinnend. Dennoch werden ernstere Probleme für Justin mit seiner Mutter, seinem Vater und mit einer Drogenabhängigkeit kommen.
