It is the mid-1980s. An aggressive Soviet leadership orders troops marched to the border of West Berlin, and then decides to invade West Germany with multiple armored tank & troop divisions. In Lawrence, Kansas – on the border with Missouri – a family is preparing for the wedding of their eldest daughter, and Dr. Oakes (Jason Robards) is keeping busy in his role as chief of surgery in the small University Hospital at Lawrence. These people go on with their daily lives but are drawn closer to the possibility of a nuclear war, as the Russians use a nuclear ballistic missile against a West German city, and then attack a U.S. warship in the Persian Gulf. The Americans strike back by hitting a Soviet ship, and then the Russians hit NATO regional headquarters with a nuclear warhead! People start creating makeshift fallout shelters in their basements, but many are caught off guard when, 1 at a time, nuclear missiles are launched from their silos along the Kansas – Missouri border. USAF officers then announce that 300+ ICBMs are inbound to the U.S., and 2 of them strike Kansas City, Missouri! Many are killed outright, but still more must face the danger of radioactive fallout. Now, the characters we follow are living in a barren, devastated world – devoid of electricity, safe drinking water, and food – and filled with radioactivity, starvation, and disease…in the horrific aftermath of ‘The Day After’…

A former member of the Ku Klux Klan, General Lee Roy, now owns and runs a fast food chain ‘American Chicken Bunker’. His new store is located on a site that was the burial ground of Native Americans. He has leased this franchise to an African-American, Denny, and has hired a Jew-hating/chicken-loving employee, Carl Jr.; a Burkha-clad Muslim woman, Humus; a Mexican, Jose Paco Bell; a male named Arbie, who is now called ‘Daisy’ amongst others. He attends the official opening of the store amidst protests from the local community of atrocities carried out on chickens, and the Indian burial grounds’ desecration. Watch what happens when Lee Roy decides to pacify the protesters with free chicken meat.

When the grieving Audrey reads the private journal of his deceased father, who was a renowned psychologist of a clinic, she is attacked by the boogeyman. She has a nervous breakdown and goes to the Hammond Halls in the Wolfbridge University in Northern California to sleep in the dorm of her friend Sarah Morris. Sarah is a student of psychology that feels guilty for the death of her mother and presents a show in the WZXB radio in the campus to give support to the audience with her professor Dr. Kane. However Audrey is hanged by the boogeyman while Sarah glances at her and dies. Sarah reads the diary of Audrey’s dad and discovers his theory that the boogeyman would be a physical manifestation of the innermost darkest fear of a person. Sarah believes on the illogical theory and tells to her boyfriend David and their common friends Lukas, Jeremy, Lindsay and Ben. As far as they also believe in the boogeyman, the legend becomes stronger and reborns, killing his victim.

Jackie works as a CCTV operator. Each day she watches over a small part of the world, protecting the people living their lives under her gaze. One day a man appears on her monitor, a man she thought she would never see again, a man she never wanted to see again. Now she has no choice, she is compelled to confront him.

Different black-and-white animation techniques tell several scary stories. There’s a story of a teenage boy who meets the wrong girl. Another tale deals with a small community where people disappear and are never seen again. Then there’s the narrative of a little Japanese girl who suffers from horrible nightmares followed by a tale where a man doesn’t get the rest he hoped for in an old not-so-abandoned house. These stories are connected by the story about a man with a devilish smile and four enormous dogs from hell and by a woman’s monologue about her fears.

When a liquor store owner finds a case of “Viper” in his cellar, he decides to sell it to the local hobos at one dollar a bottle, unaware of its true properties. The drinks causes its consumers to melt, very messily. Two homeless lads find themselves up against the effects of the toxic brew, as well as going head to head with “Bronson” a Vietnam vet with sociopathic tendencies, and the owner of the junkyard they live in.

In a dilapidated rural mansion, the last generation of the degenerate, inbred Merrye family lives with the inherited curse of a disease that causes them to mentally regress from the age of 10 or so on as they physically develop. The family chauffeur looks out for them and covers up their indiscretions. Trouble comes when greedy distant relatives and their lawyer arrive to dispossess the family of its home.
