A young woman (Juliette Lewis) moves into a new apartment that she inherited from her grandmother, who had died there in a bizarre accident. She is immediately confronted by totally bizarre neighbors and someone is obviously out to get her as rats and flies engulf her apartment. But with the array of weirdos around her, who might it be? Everyone warns her to stay away from her upstairs neighbor (Austin Pendleton), but he is the only one who shows any kindness. Supposedly the neighbor below her is an 80 year old woman, but she hammers the floor so hard when the young woman moves furniture that she breaks tiles. Another neighbor (Shelley Duvall) seems kind enough to begin with, but later seems more interfering and threatening. Also her weatherman boy friend (William Hurt) can’t be ruled out. Contrary to his desire for her to move in with him, she moved into their apartment. Picture builds suspensefully throughout the beginning, but slips into the expected threatened woman film at its culmination.

This is a new version of Cyrano de Bergerac, one of the most celebrated plays of the French theater, written by Edmond Rostand. Instead of France was established in the 17th century, “Cyrano” was modified “for Charlie”, fire chief in a small city in Washington. Roxanne played by beautiful Darryl Hanna, rents a summer house to see comets and Charlie quickly falls in love with her. Is Charlie intelligent, funny, and sensitive, but all his perfect qualities are darkened unfortunately by his very big nose (“They Excuse Me, he that his nose or a bus parked in his face?”). The friend of Charlie, Chris, of another side, is quite attractive, but superficial and clumsy with words, specially around women (he has a tendency of vomiting very much). Both men are bewitched with Roxanne, but link, in a movement superficial but prethat can be said, it shows the interest in pretty Chris. Chris is of imprisoned language around his — everything that goes out from his mouth is common or indecipherable. So he asks the Charlie the help. Charlie, inspired, writes 3 letters of love in a day to Roxanne, without knowledge of Chris. The eloquent work of letters of Charlie, because Roxanne falls in the love with Chris. But Chris cannot satisfy expectations of Roxanne in the person and he soon escapes with a waitress who is “quite attractive, also”.

Portanto ele pede a Charlie a ajuda.
