Summer 1900: Queen Victoria’s last and the summer Leo turns 13. He’s the guest of Marcus, a wealthy classmate, at a grand home in rural Norfolk. Leo is befriended by Marian, Marcus’s twenty-something sister, a beauty about to be engaged to Hugh, a viscount and good fellow. Marian buys Leo a forest-green suit, takes him on walks, and asks him to carry messages to and from their neighbor, Ted Burgess, a bit of a rake. Leo is soon dissembling, realizes he’s betraying Hugh, but continues as the go-between nonetheless, asking adults naive questions about the attractions of men and women. Can an affair between neighbors stay secret for long? And how does innocence end?

From the Ray Bradbury novel, Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature that paper will burst into flame. Oskar Werner plays a fireman who does not put out fires, but who searches out books and burns them. Books make people unhappy. In a parody of social correctness, all discordant strains are removed. The world is a lonely one of separate people in which Werner begins to read the books before burning them.

A Russian epic, the movie traces the life of surgeon-poet Yury Zhivago before and during the Russian Revolution. Married to an upper-class girl who is devoted to him, yet in love with an unfortunate woman who becomes his muse, Zhivago is torn between fidelity and passion. Sympathetic with the revolution but shaken by the wars and purges, he struggles to retain his individualism as a humanist amid the spirit of collectivism.

Scientist Alex Harris, doing research on artificial intelligence, is working on a special kind of computer. This computer grows more and more powerful and eventually rapes the scientist’s wife, Susan Harris.

This animated feature-length life of Jesus pride starry pedigree. Originally a BBC Wales production, it showcases the voices of some of the best British actors in any medium: Ralph Fiennes as a brooding and humble Jesus, Miranda Richardson as Mary Magdalene, Richard E. Grant as John the Baptist and David Thewlis as Judas. A beautiful, flute-heavy score is Oscar-winner Anne Dudley (Full Monty). And clearly a lot of expense has gone into the Claymation-like animation as well. But while it's hard to find errors in displaying the familiar story-is respectful and definitely happened, you might say that the book-it would be nice if there was a tad more joy, when he went a bit lighter in its sandals. Given that all the characters seem consistently subdued, whether they are an expression of anxiety, anger, fear or bliss-none of which are helped by figures' blank-eyed stares (if animators are becoming more sophisticated, why can not they get rid of those horrid empty gāzes one and for all?). Yet with such an impressive mass of actors play these familiar roles lends the production a certain credibility, and parents looking for good religious videos that will not insult their kids' intelligence will be thrilled.
