Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) gets a job as the custodian of the Overlook Hotel, in the mountains of Colorado. The place is closed down during winter, and Torrance and his family will be the only occupants of the hotel for a long while. This remake of the 1946 movie of the same name accounts an affair between a seedy drifter and a seductive wife of a roadside cafe owner. This begins a chain of events that culminates in murder. Based on a novel by James M. Cain.

After his daughter died in a hit and run, Freddy Gale has waited six years for John Booth, the man responsible, to be released from prison. On the day of release, Gale visits Booth and announces that he will kill him in one week. Booth uses his time to try and make peace with himself and his entourage, and even finds romance. Gale, whose life is spiralling down because of his obsession towards Booth, will bring himself on the very edge of sanity. Aurora and Emma are mother and daughter who march to different drummers. Beginning with Emma’s marriage, Aurora shows how difficult and loving she can be. The movie covers several years of their lives as each finds different reasons to go on living and find joy. Aurora’s interludes with Garrett Breedlove, retired astronaut and next door neighbor are quite striking. In the end, different people show their love in very different ways.

Los Angeles detective Jake Gittes is hired by a woman who is emerging as Mrs Mulwray to spy on her husband. Shortly after Gittes is hired, the real Mrs. Mulwray appears in his office threatening to sue if he does not drop the case immediately. Gittes pursues the case anyway slowly uncovering a major conspiracy centering on water management, provincial and municipal corruption, land use and real estate, in which at least one murder.

After a misunderstanding is ordered aboard an airplane which from the control, mild-civilised Dave Buznik steps up by judge Daniel to be present from doctor Buddy Rydell at controlled fury-administrative meetings which are filled with highly eccentric and brief men and women. The unorthodox approach of the friend to the therapy is confrontational and polish, and Dave is thereby confused. Then, afterwards one more bad luck, judge Daniel Dave orders to increase his therapy or to go bankrupt in the prison. So, friend moves in with Dave to help him, to fight with his internal demons. Friend himself has no internal demons, because he auditions with every opportunity and the making indecent remarks about the friend of Dave Linda and coming floating Dave in confronting to every low, encloses previous or presently head-on. But friend goes, finally, too far, and Dave must decide whether to crawl enter back into his bowl or for himself. Could it be that mistaking the friend and contradicting treatment just consist in it what the doctor ordered?.
