An aspiring emcee from the Dirty South who is trying to make it in the hip-hop world has to deal with many different types of people who try to bring him down, including strippers, his baby’s mama, and all the things that try to keep a player down. This is probably his last chance to make it: he is approaching his 40s, and his life is looking downhill.

Charlie Lang, a New York cop with a heart of gold, wins a share of the lottery. However, the day before, having been caught without enough money to tip waitress (Yvonne), Charlie offers her half the winnings. Charlie’s wife, Muriel, is the complete opposite of her husband. She wants more and more money, and she’s not impressed by Charlie’s honest and kind nature. As Charlie and Muriel grow apart, Charlie and Yvonne grow together.

Although it has been twenty years since they have spoken with each other, two strangers soul singing legends agree to participate in a reunion performance at the Apollo Theater to honor their recently deceased band leader.

Finally, locked up for six years on a great theft-auto-accusation, Rudy Duncan (Ben Affleck) and his cellmate incision (James Frain) is about to be dismissed partly.
