Chain-smoking, funny private eye Philip Marlowe drives a friend from LA to Tijuana, the border and returns home to an apartment filled with police officers to stop instigating the murder of his friend's wife. After the release of Marlowe, as a result of the alleged suicide of his friend in Mexico, a beautiful woman hires him to locate her husband's strength and mercurial.
