Told from the point of view from Archie (Qualls), a comic book collector, this is the story of a rivalry between two comic book shop owners. One (Logue) does it for the love of comics, while the other shop, run by a husband-and-wife team (Rapaport and Lyonne) are in it strictly for the money. The situation brews to a head when a sneak collector, Conan (Masterson) discovers a large collection of perfectly-preserved classic comics, leading the two shops to vie to acquire them, along with a “villain” (Elwes) who hopes to steal them first.

Jessica moves into a loft on the eighth floor of a Los Angeles apartment building called The Dante. The other tenants all seem friendly at first, but when she starts witnessing horrible deaths, she must team up with her neighbor Evan (Doom) to solve the mystery — and uncover her own connection to the place.

Convinced that a CNN cameraman is her true love, an eccentric crossword puzzler trails him as he travels all over the country, hoping to convince him that they belong together.

“Familiar Strangers” asks the question. “Is it really possible to relate to ones parents and siblings after being replaced by the family dog? . . . Perhaps as friends – weird friends?” An off beat – funny – heartfelt story of family negotiating the changing relationships between parents and children, especially as those children grow into adulthood.

This is probably his last chance to make it: he is approaching his 40s, and his life is looking downhill.
