The film begins with ageing undergrowth-like Bill Roberts who tells his history a young historian. His claim? He states that he is the famous criminal William H. Bonney, deck name Billy the child who was presumably shot and was killed by Patrick Floyd Garrett in 1881. The old man gives a very persuasive history on it, like he and Garrett, together with Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh, Chavez y Chavez to which doctor Skurlock, and many others led the criminal life and avoided the law because they were artificial men. Garrett, a friend of Billy, became paid-up from John Chisum, a cattle king to remove Billy the child. So, Garrett and Ashmun Upson begin away, Billy the child to find.
